ETIAS Guide

ETIAS is the European Travel Information and Authorisation System. It is designed as a travel authorisation for many visa-exempt travellers visiting participating European countries for a short stay.

What ETIAS is not

  • It is not a visa.
  • It is not permission to overstay.
  • It does not replace passport, entry or stay requirements.

Why ETIAS is often confused with the 90/180 rule

Many travellers assume ETIAS and the Schengen stay limit are the same thing. They are not. ETIAS is about travel authorisation, while the 90/180 rule is about how long an eligible short stay may last.

What travellers should prepare

Use official sources, avoid unofficial intermediaries where unnecessary, and make sure your passport and travel plans are consistent with current requirements.
